Nighttime had come, but the city was still bright. Moonlight and torchlight bathed the city's streets, creating pools and streams of shadow through which the city's underworld slithered. Above them, on a bridge spanning a city street, a series of heavy footsteps echoed in the air. Akira made no attempt to hide her presence as she emerged from a doorway onto the bridge, her sheathed Zanpakuto resting over her right shoulder as if it were an umbrella. The young woman's golden eyes flickered as they scanned for her opponent. Having never seen him before, she was quite curious as to how the Vice-Captain of the Thirteenth Division would be in combat.

"I wonder where he is..."

Lamplights gathered around, the howl of animals heard from afar. Night had come, the moon had taken charge. The flock of nocturnal creatures flew and crept about, nigh silent screeches, the city's underworld slithers. The moonlight was another source of brilliance, the city corners hid away from it, like vampires hiding away from sunlight. Shadows existed, darkness established. Majestic steps taken, hands wrapped within his gigantic kimono-zōri, his zanpakuto perfectly sealed within its sheath, his dark short, shaggy hair dangled about upon the whispers of the cool night winds. Skulls aligned, bodies left around the streets in disturbing fashion, tattered clothes soaked within the wetness of this Terra firma, the eyes of men peered for relaxation. His coruscating red oculi peered thoroughly, an attempt to distinguish his opponent from the herds of men. Battering the muds steadily, his controlled reiatsu poured out, like a bucket over filled with water before halting the emission, he had done so to notify the opposition about his whereabout, the Third Seat of the second division.

Noticing the significant reiatsu an individual, out of the sea of passersby around, possessed, he deduced instantly. Potentially pinpointing his opponent's location, soon after. His emotionless state retained, his coldness remained unchanged, such distorted nature, Akutagawa was never like this. Was this even Akutagawa to begin with? A dash earned him a significant amount of propulsive force, a sudden leap geared him through unimaginable heights, easily topping the bridge's height before landing on it. Flaring his reiatsu once again, however, retaining control over it, he had intentionally wanted to test the mental power of his opponent, a Lady.

Are you?
The words that escaped his lips, his eyes gazed down on her, seeping their coldness into people's heart by merely staring at them.
The flare not enough to suppress even an 11th seat, however, a ripple of fear could be established within her heart, a goal he had hope to achieve. He was merely testing the waters, to be quite sure if he was to exert full power.

A rush of air signified the movement of another being: the arrival of her opponent. Akira smiled slightly at the other Shinigami's dramatic entrance. She did like his style. It was open and clearly aggressive, traits she could appreciate.

"Hmm. You're a big one."

Akira's eyebrows rose as she tilted her neck to look the man in the eyes. He towered over her, easily twelve inches taller than she was. His crimson pupils burned into hers with a a gaze that was so cold she could feel it. Though not intimidated, she wouldn't have been amused if she hadn't felt a rise in the reiatsu around her. It wasn't enough to pressure a lower Seated Officer; yet, she could deduce it was meant to make a statement to her. If this man was trying to frighten her, he'd have to do better. A slightly headstrong tone could be heard in her voice as she spoke.

"But I've beaten bigger."

With that, her left hand moved to grip the bottom of her Zanpakuto's hilt. Its long handle was comparable in length to an axe; and as a result, when she swung the sheathed weapon at Akutagawa's chest it moved with enough force to shatter the bridge they were on if the move was dodged.

Bodily responses provided, her face retained its delight. Akutagawa had gotten the response he needed without her even saying a word. His reiatsu affected her not, she was unfazed by his gaze.
Tilting his face downwards, he adjusted to get a clearer view of her visage. Her will not to be intimidated remained strong. Her words, bold and clearly outspoken, Akutagawa's interest peaked a little, a fun fight he might get. Akutagawa staged himself for any sudden attempt she might throw at him. Not merely up to a second after such suspicion, she sprung into action, her arm moved towards her blade's hilt whose length could be likened to the handle of an axe. Moving at preternatural speed, he freed his blade from its confine;sheath. Swinging it against the direction of the oncoming weapon, the clash between blades would be heard aloud soonafter, sparks glittered, Akuta's predatory instincts would kicked in. Sliding the bladed edge of his blade down her zanpakuto's end, he'd aim for the thumb which aided her grip on the blade even though the cross guard might have provided a defence, he'd simply attempt to cut through it and down against her thumb. While actually a feint to lure her in, his left fist rose to her immediate challenge. Gearing with immense speed, intense force was provided and as well generated. With both arms cloaked with reiatsu, the force they'd normally pack was upped as well, not through physical refinement, his sheer knowledge of reiatsu application was another intriguing quality he happened to hold.
Sho
He muttered, in a low, weak tone. His fist aiming for the midsection of Akira, his punch being amped by both kido and reiatsu would lead to something not quite sightly if the lady didn't defend herself. Not only would she suffer from a limited deal of damage, the knock back effect would send her straight through the building she exited from. A perfect scenery Akutagawa held in mind, he might have not taken the durability of his enemy into account or whether she could react if he let loose like he just did, though still placing a considerable restrictions on himself.
'Oh?'
The slight surprise he felt the moment he exerted much reiatsu than needed.
'I'm not capable of restraining myself? Or it's been a while?
He questioned rhetorically. These questions would cross his mind if his attempts occurred, all left was to be determined by her capabilities of countering or accepting reality.

OOC: I assume you are assuming the sheath on the weapon was destroyed upon striking?
The sheath of Akira's Zanpakuto shattered upon contact with Akutagawa's blade. His strength was considerable; sparks flew from the point of contact as the two weapon edges ground against one another. In the darkness, Akira was able to see the sparks trace the path of Akutagawa's blade as it slid down Akira's nagamaki. It took less than a second for the opponent's blade to lock with the tsuba, protecting Akira's hand from any damage.

Their exchange was at a standstill until Akutagawa followed up with a punch with his left first. Akira respond by lifting her right leg up and pivoting to deliver a side kick directly at the other man's fist. She had gauged his strength from his sword strike and delivered an according amount of force to her kick. It would prove an incorrect guess. Augmenting his punch with reiatsu and Kido, the Vice-Captain struck with more force, sending Akira flying into the building she had come from. Only by thrusting her sword blade into the floorboards was she able to bring herself to a stop just inside of the doorway.

"Nice."

With that word, Akira pointed her sword at the bridge below Akutagawa as she charged him. A fierce smile was on her face as she cried out...

"Hado no Ichi: Sho!"

... firing the Kido spell at the bridge at his feet with enough force to crack the wooden boards that composed it. A tall man, they would not be able to hold his weight. As the bridge collapsed underneath him, Akira would slash downwards at her opponent, striking at his left shoulder down towards his left hip. If he dodged, she would use her leftward pivoting motion to do a reverse side kick at his head.

Sorry about the delay, Work got me busy

Animalistic howls continued, stench of blood filled the air, guillotine dripping with fresh, hot blood by each moment. The screeches of the creeping and crawling extended on and on, ears attuned and adapted to such strange sounds overtime. The nocturnals had their run in this, strange feathery creatures hovering about, eyes as red as blood, and blood lust they seemed to be. Perhaps, the carcase of the one who dies between the two battlers was what they hoped to feed on. Passersby hid aware from the light, they stayed within the fearsome darkness that almost devoured them. Salvagers trespassed, not like Akira and Akuta had any dealings with them, it was best they butt not into Akuta's battle, as he'd stop at nothing to rid the fire of its flames, in this case their life fire that continues to waddle like a candle lit within the mist of a stormy wind would be put off faster than they could've.

Head-on collision commenced, aggression was what Akutagawa displayed in response to Akira's silly attempt. Incapable of ridding her thumb, the cross guard did well to shield her fingers from any plans of an attacker. Though a decoy, a feint. Akira was able to deduce the next line of Akuta's action, an ability few had in battle when facing off against Akuta for the first time. With eerie smiles making their way into this expressionless beast's visage, a muse he might have found. His second attempt followed through. In response that Akuta's attempt, Akuta observed how Akira tried to react only to be blown off more by the augmented force he exerted at that point. Surprisingly, Akira was able to halt her unintended movement by stabbing the blade's tip on the wooden structure they established their foothold on, dragging, dampening and finally ending her motion.

Smiling evilly, the bridge which Akuta stood on collapsed, her kido application was almost perfect. However, Akuta's stimulus response helped him, upon noticing the slightest crackling sounds and the vibratory pressure rustling through the bridge, he'd move at full power to move out of the range of the collapsing bridge. Then came the blade that intended to stop him. Raising his left forearm, the blade which the opposition swung at would be repelled, and should the elusive shield make contact with Akira's body, she'd be repelled as well while Akuta geared forward aggressively at maximum velocity.
Seki

Should his initial attempt succeed, Akuta would thrust his right arm forward, thrusting his blade as well in the process, hoping to sip through skin and flesh and deep into his opposition's body if she got reflected backwards by the initial attempt. His precision aided him, he would aim for the right shoulder of Akira, hoping to cease function on the right side of her upper body.

Apologies to you as well - finals and holiday obligations. PhoenixDayne.

By the way, saw your response to my Zanpakuto abilities. For the duration of this spar, let's assume I cannot use its abilities. It was a Zanpakuto I made without intention to be used against others. Meant for it to be used for solo work.
"Kido again!"

Akira was enjoying her fighting with this man; he knew what he was doing. Her sword strike was foiled by Akuta's use of Seki. Her body's momentum, which was turning counterclockwise to her left, was negated and even slightly reverse by the power of the Seki, which was sending force in the opposite direction. This worked to her advantage. Akuta was now stabbing at her right shoulder, which would have been carried forward into the path of the sword point. Instead, Akira was no longer moving in that direction. She leaned backwards while executing a swift, left-leg front kick at the elbow of Akuta's sword-arm. This would work in conjunction with her backwards-leaning motion, which she transformed into a backwards somersault.

Unfortunately, it was not flawless. The move was meant to pierce Akira's right shoulder. Instead, it raked along her chest, from navel to right shoulder, creating a long shallow cut as she was in mid-somersault. As she pulled out of sword range, Akira looked down in dismay at her injury. It wasn't that she was unfamiliar with injury; it was that she wasn't winning in exchange for it. How could this man be holding her own when she was so good?

Akira needed to even the playing field. The other man was larger and while she might have a slight advantage in strength, it would be useless if she couldn't reach him to leverage it. It was time. Raising her Zanpakuto, she hissed,

"Yume o tachikire, Shinkiri!"

As the nagamaki warped its form, red reiatsu spraying, Akira was already in motion, swinging the long shaft of its Shikai form of a winged spear around to slash at Akuta's right side with the nearly half-a-meter long sword blade.

Though connecting with his attempt, the last attempt the Lady displayed nearly had a considerable effect since he didn't expect it.
During the timeframe she had stayed down and pondered about her weakness, it was inarguably funny why Akuta didn't hit home to deal the final drill. Shortly, red reiatsu burst forth from her being, it sprayed about as if it had a molecular bond of water and the characteristics of a liquid. Almost forgetting the opponent before him, it'd have been quite foolish to let his guard down. Akuta's predatory instincts kicked in, like a monster of legends, his reiatsu soared up. Possibly in such short time frame, he had for once, actually wanted to go on out and defeat his opposition without much ado.
Clashing his blade with the spear, he leapt backwards while moving towards his left to extend the distance between himself and her weapon.
'That's dangerous'
He muttered lowly. Showing the respect she deserved, all that way left was to repay the same treatment the Lady had given him, releasing her zanpakuto which he had only deduced from the low incantation and the sudden change in her weapon's form.

'Shimeshi, Omoikane. Mugen no chisiki, Omoikane
He said hastily. Primarily, only one would've been enough, however, he wanted to test the full extent of his power whilst holding back his physicals without dominating overwhelmingly based on just that. Naturally, she needed to level the ground, on the other hand, akutagawa needed to usher her into the new world, show her true power, break her and remould her.

'In this very moment, excite yourself. In this very moment, despair. In this very moment, focus, for you may not lose sight of what is before you.'
He stated. Looking down on her and watching her carefully, all he needed to ensure the closure of this battle was her submission. However, should she display any sign of resilience, this may, after all, be the start of this battle. Admittedly, his zanpakuto wasn't fully ready, it was still dormant, slumbering and allowing only a partial tap of it's powers, with that much, it should be more or less a fair fight if the Lady had tamed her zanpakuto to understand it's full capabilities.
'From here onward, brace yourself, weakness disgust me, entertain me, bend me, destroy me. Do not get fooled by your sight'
Upon such utterance, wonders happened. What appeared from thin air held stark resemblance to this man, Akutagawa. Surprisingly, it wasn't just one, they were two. Though to the masking function of his shikai, all that was seen were tangible replicas that spoke in unison, acted in unison and behaved as though they were Akutagawa. Actually, they were, indistinguishable, perfect in behaviour, speech and semblance. It'll only take extreme deduction skill for one to notice that the real akutagawa had gone invisible, and shifted attention away from himself.
Maintaining discreetness about his existence, his attacks also displayed undetectability as well. Not to be seen, nor be heard.
Should his transition from his prior position to Akira's back with a good 5m distance succeed, his next course of actions would follow after that. His need for kido continued. Extending his index and middle finger of his right manus against Akira's rear, a bluish colour flared, imperceptible to Akira's Oculi which he thought due to his cloaking skill, streaks of lightning encircled his right arm and through the blade that dangled and still hung onto Akuta's arm through the chains that attached itself to the blade's hilt that established his shikai activation.
Byakurai
The streaks of lightning were suspended at the tip of his fingers and fired off afterwards in a bolt form while aimed and timed for Akira's spine. All that was left was for her to decide how she was to notice and counter the incoming bolt of lightning which retained Akuta's imperceptibility.

Apologies on my reply time!!!
With her strike being neutralized, Akira pulled back as well, mirroring the movement of her opponent by leaping backwards onto the roof of the building opposite Akutagawa. She shoved the pointed end of her Zanpakuto, Hisho, into the roof and let it stand there, one hand holding it lightly, while she observed the other Shinigami. He answered her Zanpakuto release with his own. That confirmed that he judged her release to be of enough threat to him to respond. Or he was, as the saying went, he was quick on the trigger and eager to escalate, she thought. Either way, she was in for quite a show. Akira's eyes widened and her brows furrowed in wariness as clones of Akutagawa appeared.

At this point, she knew she had to move. One component of a victorious strategy against multiple opponents was to keep moving, so as to avoid being flanked. Furthermore, it fit her own style. Using Shunpo, she appeared between the two Akutagawas, spinning her Zanpakuto like a quarterstaff with both hands on the middle of its shaft to slash at one of the Akutagawas' face, while the butt end of the spear would pummel the back of the other's head.[1]

No sooner had she done so than she heard the word, "Byakurai!" She instinctively ducked - and realized the Kido was not being fired by either of what were clearly two bodies of Akutagawa. She didn't see the attack, but she could sense the Hado had been used, for her hair stood up ever so slightly from the rise in electric charge in the air around her, not to mention the discharge of reiatsu.

"If they didn't fire it, but someone did...!"

In that moment, Akira saw the bodies of Akutagawa that she had struck with her Zanpakuto dissolve. Was he able to duplicate himself and become intangible? They still didn't answer the question of the Byakurai, which wasn't fired by either of these bodies.[2] Akira wasn't sure where her opponent was firing from, but she still had options. Placing her left hand on the roof tiles below her, she whispered quietly.

"Bakudou no Nijuuichi: Sekienton!"

A plume of red smoke, smaller than most instances of the Kido spell, sprung from her hand. Despite being underpowered, it was large enough to obscure Akira and the area within a two meter radius around her from view.

[1] I want to confirm this before going forward - when struck, your clones do dissolve, correct?
[2] Update: I have edited my post, continue when ready (:

Fighting writer's block
Glitters!
The only word he ought to have spoken for long, normally, his perceptiveness could have come into play right from the offset of his shikai, however, he seemed to have not required its need, not even the spectral warrior that usually hovered behind him. Its services weren't required until further notice. He was clearly amazed by the responsiveness she had displayed even during her motion in dispersing the false images he had installed in his prior position. His body dangled about, his footings benching deep into the ground and letting up afterwards, he grinned from ear to ear, his heart rejoiced and gladdened, delving deep into the ocean of an intense and joyful combat. However, now that the full potential of his perception had been awakened, his perceptiveness stretched up to 150m radius, capturing the slightest movement of anyone or anything within his field. Adversely, it had no effect on anything or anyone without requiring another of his ability, in fact, no one would notice anything, the field was as is, no additions, no subtractions.
Denunciative remarks, his fight arm stretched forward, the smoke did so little in concealing where she was currently. Howls' sonic intensity built up, eyes as eerie as never before. Triggering off the mask function, he had gone out of hiding and sought after her.

'I know where you're'
He spoke. Even if he was to be blinded or his other senses were to be turned off, his vast awareness would still have given him the upperhand. He strides, enclosing the gap with each steps, resounding sounds hit the surround, a lifting the dull spirit of the terrain, his mighty steps smashed through the wooden structures, breaking the first but not the second layer, enough to withstand his monstrous size. He waited patiently, hoping she'd engineer the commence of the second half of this intense battle, he expected to derive Joy.
