Ghost in the Shell

So who has seen it already? Worth watching? I’m not very impressed with the acting work of mrs Scarlett Johansson in general and I believe her most “beneficial” selling point is her looks. So needless to say I’m not very optimistic with the cast.

There’s also the complaint with western releases of anime that they’re “white washed”. Racism aside, the Japanese style their own characters to look like (white) westerners anyway so it makes sense to me that they’re best portrayed by actors of that particular phenotype. (I mean, the Attack on Titan liveaction movie was just…, weird. All of them with the exception of one are supposed to be Europeans).

Anyway, can anyone tell me if its worth putting down money for a not-so-cheap cinema ticket for this movie?

I can’t be worse than that Dragonball Evolutions “highschool teen flick”. I mean, CGI handfarts anyone? I mean that was downright appalling from both looks, plots and acting. Is it like that category of bad or at least a decent action movie in itself?

The answer is no. I put it on the list of things to talk about for when we record next week’s show, but simply put the answer is no. It’s just another shallow Hollywood adaptation. Insult to the series and just about proof anime movies just can’t be done right. If you drop the ball ln Ghost In the Shell there’s no hope for anything.

It’s not as bad as Evolution, but I don’t think that’s saying much. It’s a far cry from being as good as the anime movie, or even being a good movie period. It’s visually impressive but it only just barely scratches the surface of anything. It should have just been a straight copy/paste of the original.

    Oh well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
