The long wait is almost over for the jubilant fans of the deified occult anime Jigoku Shoujo. After years of longing when the third season, Mitsuganae ended in 2009, a new 12 episode season will see the return of Enma Ai on July 14th of this year (2017) called Jigoku Shoujo: Yoi no Togi. The official Jigoku Shoujo website, which sadly does not come with a hell correspondence service (yet), announced the release date today.
Wanyuudo, Hone Onna, Kikuru, Ren and others will return as well. But new to the show is a girl named Michiru. The announced cast sees all previous voice actors return to take up their original roles as well as the new Michiru being added:
- Mamiko Noto as Ai Enma
- Takayuki Sugo as Wanyuudou
- Takako Honda as Hone-Onna
- Masaya Matsukaze as Ren Ichimoku
- Hekiru Shiina as Yamawaro
- Kanako Sakai as Kikuri
- Misaki Watada as Michiru
This of course leaves immediate speculation towards Enma’s succession as the Hell Girl after the previous failed attempt at this. Jigoku Shoujo usually starts its seasons with a number of seemingly unrelated hell correspondences from bullied or wronged people before the plot picks up.
The trailer was region locked to Japan but of course we have procured a copy for your viewing and to satiate your undoubtedly impatient needs (let if buffer on page load for a minute first):
